Packing My bags for chernobyl

One Creepy gas mask so I don’t breath in deadly radiation dauntly staring
at everything  hoping to lessen it’s courage.
I will need one big white radiation suit with triple layers equipped
with an extra big black gas mask
I will need 4 sample glasses so I can get radiation as well as do tests on
                                                                       myself
                                                         Incase I get radiation.
One reasonably big yellow geiger counter to detect where the
                                             BIGGEST radiation spikes are.
I will need one sharp bladed machete to defend myself in case
Any big green pulsating mutants attack.
And I will need one big light brown rope
To help me climb up buildings and
                                                              hills/mountains.
And lastly I will need one guide to ensure
                                                   that I don't painfully perish.

Toki Pounamu Film Festival

Today the senior school went to the Toki Pounamu Film Festival to watch schools from all over the West Coast show us their environmental videos of our place. My favourite one was the one that had pictures of our school bushtrack with commentary in the background because they had edited it well and put a lot of effort into it. My favourite part was when it showed the recording in the school creek. It showed lots of areas in our school which was really cool! In some parts it showed close ups of leaves and trees which looked really fascinating. I think that the students who made it did a really good job.

Kiwi Collage

We have been learning to make a collage on GOogle Drawing.
We had to use the explore, mask and arrange tools to get our collage to come together. We had to make a NZ bird and put it into its habitat. It was a lot fun and I am really pleased with my bird. Have you ever had a go at this?

The year is 2077 at the moment my country is in the middle of
a Deadly nuclear war and my Black OPS squad are on a
mission to recover some survivors from a vault in a city that
just got nuked. We have to wear Dark T44 power armour because
of the toxic radiation. We will have to be careful though because of
ferrel ghouls and Deadly blood dripping super mutants that will rip us
apart.

It's time to drop now as we jump out of the fighter jet we feel like we’re birds
that are radiated and that are flying in the dark green gassy city. From a birds
eye view it looks abandoned. As I land it feels like I am in sinking sand. The city looks
like a huge 1km wide dump.

As we go into one of the old rusty, damp and wet looking buildings we feel the
sides of the wall as if we were ancient people.  Then we saw a rusty looking door
that said KEEP OUT! So we shot down the door and found a whole room of ancient
drawings all over.  Me and my crew are starting to think that this city is not what we
thought it was...

My Marae Recount

My Marae Recount

On the 1-2nd of May my class went to the Arahura Marae because we were
going to learn about the legend of greenstone, learn about the carvings at
the Marae and learn about Maori culture. It wasn't really a long trip to get
there. Also Room 5 came with us.

When we got to the marae we waited in silence because there was a lady
doing the call of welcome (it's a special part of their culture).

Then we entered the marae and the spine of the Marae was glowing with
lights and they changed colour. It was AMAZING! Then we did the Hongi to
finish off the Powhiri. Next we were invited to have some kai in the food
area. The food was pretty good! We had to give it a blessing called a Karakia.
Then we were allowed to have a play outside the marae. It was actually a big
area to play in.

10 minutes later we went down to the Arahura River. Everyone was fossicking
for greenstone everywhere. One of the members of the Marae (his name
was Jerry) came down with us and told us not to look for green but look for
blue and white stones. Which did seem a bit odd but it worked. We were
very lucky to go down to the river with Jerry because the public is not
allowed(its private property). He even told us the legend of
greenstone/pounamu.

Later, I was down the river further still looking for the hidden greenstone
and then I saw something bubbling from the water. I realised it was a spring!
A spring is fresh water from underground that the earth creates. It was so
awesome to find it because me and my friends started mining there for
greenstone/pounamu(we didn't find any though).

One thing I loved about going to the marae was seeing inside the wharenui.
The Marae lighting was realy cool to see when we walked in but the things
that attracted me as if I was a magnet, was the carvings. All of them had
green, blue and red lines over their faces. Some of their eyes were Pounamu
and some were just painted. Even at the top of the Marae their koruru was
different because instead of it being carved with wood it was carved with
greenstone(it is the only one in NZ).

I’m glad I went to the Marae because I got to learn about a different
culture and how it all worked.

The Powhiri Process

WALT understand the Powhiriri Process. Here is my writing about it:

   The Powhiri Process

When you go to a Marae you have to go through a Special Process. Back
Hundreds of Years ago New Zealand Also now known as Aotearoa
sometimes had some bad People who wanted to take  the land off other
tribes or they were there for War. So the people from the marae sent out their
fastest warrior. They laid down either a special feather or a leaf. If the visitors
did not come in peace they did not pick up the Feather/Leaf.  So the warriors
dashed back to the marae to tell the Leader/Chief the news if they were
coming in war or peace. It was called a wero but all of that happened a long
time ago nowadays they only do that for special occasions.

The second process is the karanga. It is basically just a call of  Welcome.
The karanga is done by the women. It also means respect to people that
have passed away.

The 3rd and fourth/ Toru and Wha. The next thing that happens is called
the whaikorero.  It is done by the men/host first. After that it is the guest’s
turn to do a speech. After each whaikorero the women and men do a Waiata.
After the Guest’s have done their Speech they do a Waiata to show Respect.

After that they do a Hongi. A Hongi is when you touch on tip of your noses to
show Respect. Then they have some delicious Kai.

That is The Powhiri Process.
