Whatif Poem

As the nighttime sky crawls over my house I lay there thinking

Then they come…

The whatifs ooze into my brain and start their course

Whatif I lose in basketball

Whatif I don’t become even near tall

Whatif I never land a flip

Whatif I choke on a pip

Whatif I don’t catch a fish

Whatif I drop the dish

Whatif I sit down and the chair breaks

Whatif there's an Earthquake

Whatif I fall off my skateboard

Whatif I fall asleep because I’m bored

As everything was fine the Whatifs strike again...

Water temperature

Why Do Scientists Measure Water Temperatures?

Why do scientists measure water temperatures in the first place? Scientists measure water temperatures for different reasons like checking effects of climate change, and looking out for the effect of temperature for living organisms.Nationwide groundwater testing results overdue for months | RNZ News

When you measure water temperature it means that you are trying to find out how cold/hot the water / liquid is. The equipment people /scientists use to measure the temperature of water is called colorimeters, photometers which are both portable devices but very dangerously delicate instruments (they are very expensive to operate)

This equipment scientists use is very helpful and saves thousands of lives. Scientists also go down rivers, creeks and tiny mystic waterways to test for pollution, nitrates, phosphate,  bacteria, 1080(New Zealand)  and too much cow/sheep manure by farms. Too much manure in our waterways is not good for local wildlife but also humans too.

On other occasions, like floods, scientists test water for any substances that have come down rivers from the mountains but also possibly from farms in the area, this might include mud and manure.

In conclusion we test water to find out if it's drinkable and to look after our waterways. Scientists measure water temperatures to check the effects of climate change, and to look out for the effect of temperature for living organisms.

Protecting the Maui Dolphins is Important?

Protecting the Maui dolphin is important?

Should Maui dolphins be protected? A majority of people say that the Maui dolphins should be protected and others say they shouldn't.

I think that the Maui dolphin should be protected because they are important to the world.

The Maui dolphin population is slowly decreasing because of pollution, there are only 55 left.

Chemicals and human waste which is some of the reasons for their deaths which is horrific!

We should act now to take humongous steps to stop them from becoming extinct.

The indigenous Maui dolphins are native to New Zealand. They are the tiniest and rarest of dolphins in

this big wide world and they are becoming extinct.

Maui dolphins are subspecies of the too similar Hector's dolphin.

Most of the sad deaths of Maui dolphins are caused by getting tangled in indiscriminate

fishing nets, and notorious shark species eating them.

Is it important that Maui dolphins should be protected?  Maui Dolphins only live on the West Coast of

the North Island in New Zealand. They are extremely rare because there are only 55 left in the entire world! The Department Of Conservation is working to stop the spectacular dolphins from becoming extinct by

making an area  where they swim boats are not allowed nets.

The Maui dolphins are very important to our fragile ecosystem.

They have a role to play like every other animal in our ecosystem. They feed on red cod, sole and āhuru.

You should know that just picking up your rubbish helps so much because dolphins can’t see the

difference between Plastic bags/bottles and fish so they eat them. If you ever find a Maui dolphin

stranded on a beach call the DOC Hotline 0800 362 468. The Maui dolphin is important!

Surfing poem

      Tauranga Bay

Sands soft, softer than seal pups,

Waves louder than thunder

Kahawai stream through the bay

Blue penguins glide through the water

like their opponents,

the Kahuna board riders,

surfing onto the rocks.

Stinky seals and cute pups

watching them in jealousy

On the lighthouse walk

an astrolabe gazes to the horizon

and the bay

watching for anything moving

protected in its see-through box

surfers skim waves

as white foam crashes crazily onto beaches.

Meanwhile I wonder if it's safe… ?
